What it is
California Department of Pesticides and EPA-(CFR 40.P.171) Federal law ( ANSI) Z358.1 Standards. Requires any person who applies, handles, mixers, loaders, servicer or repairs pesticides equipment, and or supervises the use of restricted application of pesticides to be certified in accordance with EPA regulations and state. Pesticide applicators and handlers must know and understand how to properly apply pesticides in a safely manner. Including respirator users and proper fit test and respirator maintenance.
Why it's needed
CA.DPR and EPA regulations establish minimum standards of competency for Pesticide Applicators and Handlers, and Respirator Fit Test for respirator users. Respirators are essential for protecting workers from inhaling hazardous materials and harmful substances including pesticides during their application.
Improper fit-respirator use can lead to exposure to these substances and serious health risks. Employers are responsible for ensuring that their Pesticides Applicators and Handlers and Respirator users be properly protected.
